A training partnership can mean meeting at the same time and encouraging each other. It does not require identical weights, exercise options, or goals. Decide what you are sharing before the session starts.
Plan the changeovers
If you share equipment, allow time for each person's setup and planned rest. Use the choices from your respective programs. Ask the coach how to organize the session if the plans do not fit neatly together rather than rushing one person to match the other.
Keep encouragement useful
Ask what kind of support your partner wants. A reminder of the agreed plan can be more helpful than pressure to add weight. You can leave the gym having trained together even when the numbers in your logs look different.
